Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I searched for a flat-screen tv for a couple of months, and finally chose the 4665. I chose the size of the TV based on my room, and decided 50 was too big and 42 too small. This left me without a decision on plasma vs lcd, which was ok with me. Plasma has more basic issues, and going LCD was not a sacrifice - except I had yet to see a LCD with black blacks, so I was not sure what I would see in the 46" range.

As for price range, I decided that I was going to buy the tv that I was happiest with. It was not that I have unlimited budget, just that I wanted to make sure that I would going to be completely satisfied with a 2-3k purchase. I really only knew about the plasma tv's in 42" 720p, so I had a lot of research to do to understand what to buy.

After reading hundreds of reviews and going to several stores to comparison shop, I was basically down to three Samsung models. I was considering the LN-T4665F, LN-T4661F and the LNS4696. Going straight by the specs, the 4665 looked to be the best because of the 15000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. With this in mind, I was confused to see that BestBuy has the 4696 in their Magnolia section and not the 4665 - my only guess is that it is because the 4665 does not have a cableCard slot.

After lots of playing I was more than happy with each of the TVs, and my choices were narrowed down by wanting more hdmi's right on the set, wanting the best possible contrast, and the glossy screen on the 4665. I have seen several complaints about the glossy screen, however this was a selling feature for me - for the same reason that I ordered a MacBook Pro with the glossy screen - I just think that it makes moves look better. I can deal with reflection during the day to get a picture that I am happier with when watching a movie at night.

I must say that I am extremely impressed so far. I have not had a single image problem yet, and the setup was clearly the worst part of this tv. All-in-all, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.

So here's my brief summary of the high/low points:

Pros:
1. (3) HDMI inputs
2. Excellent contrast - forget the numbers, as they are fiction - the blacks are black
3. Glossy screen - movies spectacular - Toy Story is mind-blowing!
4. Weight - This is one of the newer, lighter sets
5. Price - Not that this set was cheap, but I liked this over the Sony and would have spent another $1,000 to get a comparable Sony - and I hate the glass around the Sony's

Cons:
1. No cableCard slot - really only matters if you want to mount it on the wall

That's how I see it. I give this TV my highest endorsement.

Sharp Aquos LC32D44U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I have both this TV as well as a Samsung LN-T2642H. It's very interesting to compare the two TV's performances. If you want the more balanced natural look, go with Sharp. If you're more interested in a vivid, colorful image go with Samsung. I also did an extended look at the Toshiba 26HL67.

There is a key difference between the panels Sharp uses compared to others. Sharp's TVs are made with panels called S-IPS while Samsung, Sony and Toshiba currently use a panel called S-PVA. This has everything to do with why Samsung, Sony and Toshiba have very strong color but one thing I noticed about Samsung is that when you look at it for a slightly low angle, the color gets darker and starts to invert. If you look it from above, the color gets lighter and starts to invert. With the Sharp, no matter what angle I look at it, the color doesn't change AT ALL! This is very impressive and cool!

I also notice that when I played around with the TV settings, it doesn't need much to look good, it almost always does. When you turn on the Active Contrast mode on the Sharp (it's equivalent to DNIe), it doesn't totally knock out the details in darker areas. At first, I had to keep checking to see if it was on or not because I was so used to the way the Samsung crushes black details even on the Low setting. Once again, I was more impress with the way this TV addresses contrast in fact I think the Sharp does a better job with contrast because of its black color.

The Sharp's black color is closer to black than the Samsung. The black color on the Samsung is more of a dark blue even on Warm temperature (it's especially noticably at slight vertical angles) but with the Sharp the black was much closer to real black.

The speakers on the Sharp doesn't distort at volume levels higher than 30. With the Samsung, when u turn the volume up pass 30, the bass tends to distort the fidelity of all the sound resulting in a buzz. This is probably due to the build of the unit and the lower wattage for the speakers. Sharp doesn't sound perfect either but it's definitely warmer and clearer at high volumes thanks to having 10 watts per speaker instead of 5. I would recommend everyone to get a 2.1 speaker for any LCD TV though. Take advantage of those sound outputs on the back of your TV! :) It definitely takes your experience to a higher level!

One minus I have with the Sharp was that it didn't have a headphone jack.

Overall, I think this is an excellent 32" TV. Sharp is definitely worth a look and probably my new LCD manufacturer of choice. It doesn't need as much tweaking when you switch between uses. I tested both TVs with PC (via DVI>HDMI), Xbox 360, HDTV, SDTV, HD-DVDs and upconverted DVDs. With the Samsung, I find myself always tweaking the settings between uses like changing the Energy Saving level, turning up the Digital NR for SDTV, turning it off for everything else, toning down the DNIe.

Thanks to Sharp's OPC, the backlight adjust very intelligently based on what's on the screen. I just leave the Active Contrast on because I know I'm not missing out darker details, the picture is very sharp and the panel is slightly faster thanks to the 6ms speed, which equals less motion blur with things like text and more solid image overall.

This Sharp is the real deal and reminds me much more of a CRT than the Samsung because the Samsung requires too much twinkering to get things comfortable. I think if the Samsung's black was more like true black and the vertical angle didnt distort so much I wouldn't tweak it as often.

So in summary, if you want the most vibrant colors and don't mind tweaking between uses by all means get a Samsung. (I still like the Samsung and would give it a 4 out of 5)

If you want a more, natural looking picture, that doesn't offer or require as much tweaking because it just plain looks good, go with a Sharp.

I think Toshiba and Sony TVs tend to do a better job with black crush and black color than Samsung but since the panels are the same technology (S-PVA), they still have the vibrant color and probably some vertical viewing weirdness.

(More customer reviews)I've had my new LG for a week and I'm thrilled with it.We bought this T.V. to replace an older 19" CRT for the den, where my wife and I end up watching T.V. in the evenings because the kids are doing homework or entertaining in the room with the big HDTV.The picture is so crisp, and the colors so vibrant, that I find myself looking for excuses to turn it on and watch it.I'm afraid to admit it, but I may actually prefer my new 32" LG to my 60" Sony!I liked the swivel base, so I was choosing between this set and a Samsung at the same price point.The pictures were very, very similar in quality, but I chose the LG because it was a newer model than the Samsung, and the Samsung was really at the low end of the Samsung line, while this LG is more in the middle of the LG line.The picture was great out of the box, although the T.V. is packed with features allowing you to tune and tweak the picture settings to your heart's content.I'm also very happy I didn't spend more money for a 1080p set.At 32" the 720p resolution looks awesome, so I can spend that extra $150 on something else. Samsung LN40A450 40-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

(More customer reviews)I am updating this review after one month, as my knowledge about the product has increased. Basically I think it offers one of the best picture quality available at under $1K. The features that in my opinion set this TV appart are: outstanding HD picture and black levels, anti-glare coating, 3 HDMI inputs, great picture adjustment controls and swivel stand. On the minus side, the sound is tiny and the speakers are prone to vibration if you turn the bass higher. It's not a real concern for me, since I use external speakers anyway. Also, with some older material (not re-mastered) the picture may look a bit grainy. Perhaps not the best choice if you're viewing mostly SD programming.

Here is the original review, with a few minor adjustments:

Colours are deep, rich and accurate when fed a good quality signal through an HDMI or DVI connection. Even dark scenes are beautiful: deep black levels and excellent contrast are better than many plasma TVs. The screen backlight is uniform.There is no noticeable glare from the screen, although the glossy black bezel will show some reflections.

HD material looks excellent. Vibrant colours and outstanding detail give a perception of depths that is very pleasing, especially when watching HD sports channels. I found that component cables provided from my cable company did not work nearly as well. With HDMI/DVI the picture looks much better than it did in the store. I tried three different cables and I settled for a Monster 300 HDMI cable (rated 1080i) which in my opinion works well for this TV and is probably worth the extra few dollars as opposed to lesser brand names.

The Samsung A450 does a good job with high quality SD material and some channels look much better than a CRT of comparable size. There are no banding issues or artifacts that I notice, except to say that old SD material tends to look blurry on a 40 inch set vs the typical 27 inch CRT, which is to be expected. Feeding the signal through an upconverting DVD player seemed to help a bit in this regard. You can also use the upconvert setting on your cable box, but I found it more useful to set it on Auto-DVI.

The 720/1080i display is adequate for this size TV and in HD the picture looks as sharp as I'd ever want. In fact, I set up my cable box to 1080i, rather than the slightly sharper 720p. To my eyes, this resolution seems to give a more natural picture.

The design is quite attractive and the swivel stand is very handy if you put the TV on a stand, rather than hanging it on the wall. These TV's really have only a +- 30 degrees viewing angle before colours start to fade and while this model does better than others that I saw in the store, the swivel feature is a definite plus.

User menus are friendly and provide a vast array of options for picture adjustment. You can store three custom settings for each input (for viewing in bright/normal/dark room). The factory setting are quite good for standard cable TV viewing, but I found that different sources do require adjustment and you will be happy with all the controls that this set provides. One adjustment that CNET recommends is Picture:Picture options: Film mode: auto (rather than off), which should engage the 3:2 pull down for optimum viewing of film based material.

With a picture so sharp and clear, some lower quality material shot in low light (such as concerts and movies) may appear a bit grainy. While the digital noise reduction is largely ineffective, reducing sharpness all the way to zero (if necessary) effectivelly cleans the picture with minimal loss of detail. This is also recommended by CNET for the movie setting. However, someTV's fair better in this regard (for example the PN50A450, which I also own, has excellent noise reduction and even with the larger size, SD channels look better. However, the HD material is sharper and the blacks are deeper on the LN40A450). If you plan to use cable TV, the SA 4250HD box gives a better SD picture than the older 3250, so I would recommend it.

DNIe seems more of an experimental technology at this point. I found it more useful on the larger plasma, and I almost never use it in this LCF. It is mostly useful for sports, giving exceptional sharp and bright picture but at the expense of colour accuracy (especially for the green colour). A little fiddling with the green/red balance (about 10% towards red) will produce a more natural effect. For the standard/movie settings, where colour accuracy is the main consideration and sharpness not as important, DNIe is disabled. All in all, with so many adjustment options, in the quest for that perfect picture, you will, at first, find yourself reaching for the remote control more often than you really want, which is why having three custom setting per input is so useful - a feature that most TV's in this price range lack.

Set-up is easy. The set is quite light (40 pounds) and can be handled by just one person. Once plugged in, it will find all available channels and external sources. You can customize the names for each source, which makes it easier to identify them.

Motion blur doesn't seem to be a problem with this set, at least so far. There was only one instance that I noticed and re-booting the STB eliminated the problem.However, plasma TV's still seem to have the edge here (at least on paper), but I decided to go with LCD, since I like the extra brightness and colour definition that it offers and black levels and contrast are excellent and comparable to the Panasonic TH42PX80 for example. Since I looked at this Panasonic set in detail, I can add that the colour accuracy on the Samsung is better. This is even more important since the Panasonic lacks some of the picture adjustment options. In the trade-off however, you give up a couple of inches of screen size and perhaps a higher quality cabinet.

Samsung LN46A850 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color Review

(More customer reviews)First off let me provide some basic info so you have an understanding of the use, location, and expectations for this TV. Let me state that this is the first HDTV we have ever owned. This is a replacement for a functioning 25" Zenith color console with a rotary dial (only has a flat UHF and VHF input) that we purchased new 25 plus years ago. We have basic cable (Time Warner) that was hooked up to the old TV through a VHS and DVD (separate) player. We started researching HDTV's last year. After information overload from all of the various manufactures as to why they were better we settled on the Samsung brand just to start narrowing it down. After that we took up the Plasma vs. LCD. We settled on the LCD and then quickly narrowed it down to the 46" model based upon our living room layout.We have three interior and one exterior wall, with the exterior wall facing east and is all glass.We have a fireplace at the end of the room and that is where the TV has always set. After all of that was done we were ready to pull the trigger and purchase the LN46A650 but waited for a while ($$). By the time we were ready to purchase, Samsung had just released the 850, 860, and 950.Jump back into research to see what the differences were. Well thin is what we needed to help with the room arrangement so we quickly changed to the 850 (ToC red) / 860 (ToC blue) model. We purchased the 850 on Cyber Monday. It arrived the following Monday.

1. CEVA Logistics, Just after placing my order I received a confirmation from Amazon with the tracking #. Goggled CEVA, placed the tracking # in the main web page to locate the TV and there it was, at the warehouse outside of Harrisburg Pa. I checked it several times that week and followed it through their system. I received a phone call from the local agent on Friday who setup a delivery time on Monday (7 days after the order) for a delivery between 9 and 1.They arrived at about 10:00 with a small urban type delivery truck. The two deliverymen were college aged and friendly. They met me at the door and we inspected the package together. They advised me before stepping into the house that they were only to unpack and check that it powered on. They did just that and there were no issues. I tried to tip them but they politely refused and went on their way. I am mentioning this here as some reviews were all over the place on them.

2. The TV, It was easy to hook up.Screwed in the cable to the back and turned it on. It went through a couple of quick menus and then it was searching for channels. It even tells you on the screen where it is in the process. We only get about 60 basic cable channels so I was quite surprised when it said that it was up to about 150 and still going.Once it reached the end it stated "removing scrambled channels" which brought the number back down. It found all of the HD channels that Time Warner provides free and I never new they were there.

3. Navigating the built in menu system is fairly easy. Once you get the hang of the remote you can set up the entire TV in about 30 minutes (in my case).

4. I will say that the remotes are pretty particular that they are pointed at the lower left side of the screen. One remote has everything on it. The second remote in the box that is pretty basic. It will turn the TV off and on; change the channels and the volume.

5. ToC, this is a non issue in this model.You can barely see it at all and there is no glare that we can detect at all through the sides that affect the picture.

6. The black bezel is extremely glossy and looks spectacular.When our room has all of the lights on you can see the reflections off of it but it has not interfered with our viewing. We mostly have one light on in the room at the far end in the evening and it is not noticeable. Daytime viewing, in the morning the room is brightly lit as it gets the rising sun. The screen is not affected from it.

7. Factory defaults, from the start we left them alone till we had a better feel for the TV.We have been tweaking here and there and believe that everyone can customize to their tastes.The picture is just exceptionally clear and the TV does a great job of adjusting the straight 4:3 broadcast into what ever format you want.I think that there are 5 different settings here (4:3, 16:9, zoom 1, zoom 2, wide fit) and you can set to your tastes.

8. DVD Player, Hooked it up to the TV with component cables as the connection. The player is a 2001 model and is pretty basic. We placed a Star Wars DVD in because of the THX calibration (Google it) and was utterly amazed that it looked that good. We did not do a calibration and left all of the settings alone. The TV has a built in surround sound emulator that can be turned on and off if you do not have external speakers.The sound was absolutely great compared to what we had before.I am sure that it does not match a true 5:1 or 7:1 but in no way is it weak as other reviewers have claimed.

9. Update on DLNA (12-20-2008),(additional info posted under comments, 1-19-2009)You do not need to install the software if you have Vista Home Premium,Vista Ultimate, or Windows Home Server.The DLNA hooked up while I was trying to figure out the instructions in the manual. That is about the only good I can say about this at this point.The instructions in the user manual are almost worthless.It makes it seem that you have to install the software which is not the case if you have any of the 3 OS above. The DLNA found my extensive home photo library and that part works OK. The USB on the side of the TV will not support anything but FAT 16/32 formatted keys.It will not allow the running of an external hard drive on the port. Home Movies and an extensive music library will not play on the TV.DLNA supports a very limited set of formats and codec's. Nothing that I have will run in either of these two categories without an error message "format not supported". How many folks will want to convert hundreds of gigs of home movies and music? After doing a little research I am finding that there is software that will sit between your storage devices and the TV that will convert on the fly.It will be till January sometime that I have a chance to try that out.

Final Thoughts on DLNA, I am disappointed that Samsung did not choose formats that more closely resembled what the general population has sitting on their home computers.The use of converters and the shortcomings here are a major let down as compared to the rest of the TV.I will say that my photo library looks stunning on the TV.Samsung has a way to go to support home movies and music. While this is a major shortfall it does not take away the viewing quality that this TV produces when watched.Just be aware that you need to be somewhat Techy to get DLNA working.

10. Infolink, The INFOLINK found everything the first time. News, Sports, Weather, and Stocks etc can be programmed fairly easy.

Final comments, the channel search found double channels on all of the major broadcast affiliates (NBC, ABC, FOX, ETC). It is easy to go through the menu system and tell which is analog and which is digital. Delete the analog as you can see a major difference in the quality.One can hit an "info" button on the remote and it will give you all of the technical stuff on the channels. I really like the feature that tells you which format the broadcasts are in, 4:3 or 16:9, and the resolution 420i, 720P, 1080i. The HD channels and shows themselves are clearly awesome as you see features on the shows that you have never seen before, blemishes on the actor's faces, individual strands of hair, subtle makeup differences in shades ETC. The swivel stand is nice and the TV itself is not that heavy.It comes with a micro fiber cleaning cloth. Only time will tell if this model will give us the longevity that we are accustomed to. We are totally pleased with our purchase.

It replaces an old 13" in my bedroom so a 22" seems hugh.The various menues are the same as the Regza so it was very easy to figure out based on my previous experience.Contrary to the Amazon description, it has two HDMI inputs, not one. While the picture is really great in my view, I was very disappointed in the sound.Mamimum volume is just barely acceptable (I am a little hard of hearing) for listening and it sounds hollow and tinny.I got around this by hooking up a cheap book shelf stereo to my cable box to augment the sound and putting the speakers on both sides of the TV.There are no analog audio outputs on the TV so you need cable for this solution to work.Obviously, this solution would not be acceptable to everyone.

"After doing a huge amount of research, I finally settled on this set. I was actually interested in the slightly lower-priced Toshiba Regza, but every store in my area was out. While shopping around, I noticed that this Samsung in particular seemed to have a top-notch picture. Finally I decided to take the plunge 3 days ago, and I have not been disappointed at all. In the past I have had several issues with LCD TVs, which is why I had been hesitating up to now. I know these issues are on many people's minds, and so I will address each one:

Motion Response

First, and most important, is response time with fast motion. I am driven absolutely nuts if the TV can't "hold" the motion (that is, if the image smears, or fractures, when high speed elements are zooming across the screen). The element you are looking for in an LCD monitor that tells you about this is "response time", and you want something 8ms or below. I believe this TV is 6ms (the specs say this on Sammy's website, but several stores have it listed as 8ms). In any case, this TV "holds" the motion of even fast images extremely well. In the store, it held motion best of all comparably priced models, including the Sony Bravias around $1k, and the Sharps around the same price. When I got it home, I tested it out with Star Wars ep. 1 and the battle sequence from Narnia. Both looked outstanding using a regular DVD player with HDMI upconvert to 720p. You will not see ghosting issues with high def images.

Color and contrast

Color fidelity and contrast are also important to me, and LCDs have been known to have issues producing deep blacks and bright whites. This is not a problem for this set. It produces excellent color, and did so right out of the box with the factory pre-sets. I have not had to fiddle with it at all. I did try switching to "Cinema" mode, which has some nice characteristics, but even without that, everything looked amazing.

Standard Def rendition

Another major issue with LCDTVs and monitors is that anything not displayed at the native resolution tends to look blurred or "fractured". I was very concerned about this because I have lots of old DVDs of shows like Seinfeld and the Simpsons, which I know were never broadcast in HD. Also many TV stations have not yet made the switch (though most have). Here the TV was about as good as I have seen, though it is not perfect. The good news is that upconverted SD sources like the Seinfeld DVDs look excellent -- every bit as good as on a regular TV, if not better. The bad news is that your VHS tapes are going to look blurry and pixelated on a set like this. I don't have a lot of VHS tapes left, and so this isn't a huge deal. Regular SD sources with this set vary in quality. For example, the SD version of Animal Planet had a special on the other night that almost looked HD. At the same time, flip channels to CNN, and it looks terrible. I suspect this is the broadcast quality and NOT the set... otherwise all channels would look awful in SD. So when you get a nice SD source being broadcast, it looks fine.

I would highly recommend this set. After connecting my HD cable box today and watching things like CSI:Miami, Vegas, and Miss Congeniality, all in widescreen HD, I can say that I am totally blown away by this set's HD performance. I don't think you'll be able to find a better HD TV set for the price."

(More customer reviews)So, if you're like me you research and research, obsess a bit, and then research some more before making a television purchase.So, I thought I would offer a few simple thoughts that might help.First this is an amazing television.The picture is simply amazing, the slim design is wonderful, and the remotes and features are very fun if not all that necessary.Here are some goodies to think about.

As you read on, you'll see that Amazon has pulled the various prices out of my review.Sorry about that, but I'm guessing this review will last a while and that prices always change.Anyway, the general gist is still there.

1.120 LCD televisions (especially Samsung) are designed to give a 3D-ish effect.They do this through inserting extra film clips between the regular clips.This means that sports look AMAZING, but that movies look like you're watching stage theater.Truly, like it's live video. For some people this is amazing, for others it's completely horrible.I personally hate it.But don't worry.Simply turn the 120 htz off or switch the TV to "Game" setting and you'll have a traditional wonderful movie picture.

2.Is there a difference between the 650, 750, and 850?YES!!Your decision should really come between the 650 or the 850 if your focus is on the picture.If you feel that you want to consider sound as a big part of the package then the 750 should come into the mix too.The 650 and 750 have the same picture and the 750 has a bit more bass.However, the 850 has a higher grade of pixel and produces much deeper blacks and richer whites.You won't find this on the basic specs, but trust me...it's true. There is also some thoughts that the thinner design contributes to the higher black levels.However, looking at a 650 and 850 side by side is enough to easily see the difference.The 850 adds greater depth and detail to your picture.I think it's fully worth the difference in price.

3.The sound question:Consumer reports says that the 650 has "Very Good" sound and the 850 has "Good" sound.I think this hits it just right.The 650 has nice rich tones and you could easily get away with not having a big stereo system.THe 850 is nice too.Just lacking those rich tones.It sounds more like a regular television.Just fine, but you're not getting a "wowswer" effect.However, the 650 is not going to replace a nice surround sound system by any means.The 750 does have a nice bass speaker thrown in which surpasses both.However, my view is that you should focus on your picture when it comes to the television and then look at a surround system for sound.The 850 is just fine for regular TV and the 750 would be nice for a movie, but nothing compared to a good surround system.My advice, by the 850 and save up for a nice mid-range three to five hundred dollar surround sound system from Costco.You'll be blown away.

4.Ohhhh, but maybe a plasma.Yep, plasmas are nice.They glare a bit, but so does the 650-850 series.Plasmas are not as sharp and crisp, but have higher contrast.They won't give you that "stage" look though.I looked at a lot of plasmas and went with the 850.I thought it had wonderful contrast and still maintained those crisp features that are all part of the LCD experience.You'll pay more, so if you want to save 600 or so I might jump down to a Plasma.Fully reasonable choice.Not as good a picture in my mind, but very rich (too rich for me) colors.

5.Ok...maybe a Plasma then:Sure, if you do you might consider panasonic.I haven't researched them as much, but they process at a higher level 480 hrtz vs. the 180 hrtz that a Samsung processes at.Doesn't make a big difference, but Panasonic has been making plasmas a long time and brags about how strong the glass panal is on the front.Supposedly more "wii" safe.Granted no one is playing wii next to the 850.;)Also important to know that burn in is never covered by a warranty.You should also know that the repair costs for a plasma tend to be twice that of an LCD.The average repair cost for a Samsung LCD is about [...]Plasma average 400-900.If you go plasma, you might want to consider that [...] extended warranty.

6.Be ready to tweak:All high level televisions, including Samsung are built to really dial in.You're going to love your picture out of the box, but if you are bothered by something mess around with all the settings.Kick back and say "I'm going to take an hour to just play with the picture settings."Different combination gets different results.Some increase a "real" look.Others soften.It's going to take some time to dial in.Enjoy it.You can always "reset" the picture if you get too far off.

7.White Glove:Let me save you some time.Amazon has the best deal.Truly.They deliver within a week or two, the guys set up the television wherever you want it, and they are outta there.You sign the papers, and hit power on the remote.They'll even take the box...but you might want to save it.2% of Samsungs have a problem with clouding (whiteness on the screen in uneven patches) or something else.Watch your tv for a while, if you're in doubt Amazon is awesome about sending a replacement and they will (if asked) take and deliver on the same day.You only have 30 days though so watch that calendar.
7.5:The Jutters:So, you'll see characters jutter across the screen at times.You'll think "I just spent two grand on 120 hrtz to avoid this."Don't stress it.It's not the televisions fault.First, all big screens jutter.Plasmas do it, DLPs do it, and yet, LCDs are famous for it.Flip on a NBC HD game and you'll see nothing but perfection.Here's the deal.Jutters come from a few places.First, it happens on normal televisions too, but often the picture is so small we miss it.Next, the input has everything to do with it.Some DVDs, Blu-Rays, and television stations produce a signal that has a jutter to it.Once you know this little fact you can stop blaming the TV, and realize that on ANY set you'd be seeing that jutter.Funny thing, once you start looking for it you'll see it everywhere.I was jogging and noticed the goal post juttering on my track.Our eyes can only track so fast.;)The other thing to note is that you're jumping up to a 52 inch television.The people on the screen can be one to two feet high!You're just going to have to process a lot of motion.It takes some time.After a bit, it doesn't even matter.Again, sit back and enjoy.

8.Random things I learned that you might want to know:

1.Go to best buy or someplace and look at the televisions.You need to see your choices.Have them reset the pictures so they are all on the same settings and look.That needs to be your biggest selling point.Then buy from Amazon.They might match, but Amazon has AMAZING customer service.

2.If you register your Samsung within a few weeks of delivery they will give you 3 extra months of warranty for free.

3.Prices jump around all the time.Haggle.Usually a television at this level should come with some sort of promo(150 off a blu-ray) or something of that nature.However, once you purchase from Amazon the largest fluctuation I've seen is 50.00.They are pretty steady.Best Buy and Circuit City will jump [...]

4.HDMI cords.You want a Version 1.3.Those are the highest grade available that what this TV supports.You have four inputs.I find the best configuration is xbox, blu-ray, ROKU (check it out at Netflix), and Cable into the TV, with a digital optical out from the tv to my sound system.VERY simple set up.Of course, choose the four devices that work best for you.

5.Cables:Amazon will offer you some HDMI cables at [...] a pop when you purchase your television.I might consider it.I purchased mine from Costco at 20 dollars a piece because they were gas filled and all super cool...did it make a difference.I don't know.But They were a nice tan color that doesn't stand out too much.I like that.DO NOT BUY ANY 70.00 HDMI cables.That's just a rip off.Save your [...].

6.I'm crazy about reading the manual.The biggest thing that popped out was the fact that the 850 screen must only be cleaned with water or LCD specific cleaners.The cabinet is water clean only.There are all sorts of other products out there that say they are safe...but why risk it right.So, keep that in mind.

7. The sand vs. the wall.Both are equally safe.The stand is very wide and strong on this TV.A wall mount MUST hit both studs.You will then have 4-6 of play to center your TV on sliders that are build into the stand.A plus is that the stand swivels and you don't see cords.A wall mount could get you...3-4 inches closer to the wall.It's a personal call, but make sure you've really found studs when mounting.Many older homes have lath and plaster or 1/4 layer of wood behind the drywall.This can give you a misreading on a stud finder and "could" cause a bad mount.You might be fine, you might not.IF you're worried higher someone that guarantees their work or just use the stand.

8. The FAN question:You'll read some reviews about fan noise and this TV.I haven't heard it yet, I'll keep you posted.It has a lot of venting so I would be surprised.If it does have a cooling fan I would be amazed to have it be louder than the television itself.I'll keep you posted.

9.Remote Control Block:You'll read that this television blocks a cable remote from working. This is no longer the case.New TV's aren't a problem and if it is, there is a firmware update that will fix the problem.Firmware is a file that you download from the Samsung website onto...Read more›

(More customer reviews)I'm happy to be the first to rate this wonderful LCD. I'll be short and to the point, and maybe come back and supplement this review after a few more weeks of use.

Aesthetically, the TV is clean and elegant. Love the touch of red. Love the crystal base. Love the fact that it swivels. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and looks a good bit more modern than the more curvilinear A model. I'm very happy I waited for this one.

Set up was a snap. Took me about 2 minutes to connect the base. It took longer to remove the stickers. The manual is on a little USB drive that plugs in the side of the TV, but I haven't bothered with it yet.

The picture is stunning, right out of the box. Absolutely beautiful. Only adjustment I made was to turn the brightness down slightly, as I have a very dark TV room.

The on-screen graphics and menus are both intuitive and elegantly designed. I hate when the industrial design is carefully considered, and the on-screen UI is forgotten. That didn't happen here. Both are wonderful.

I somewhat skeptically connected my camera card reader to one of the USB plugs on the side, and inserted a memory card from my father's camera. He'd hoped to show us pictures, but didn't have a plan for how. Perfect timing, as the TV had arrived that day. The TV recognized the card, and very quickly we were watching pictures and video in high res on our new TV. Fantastic.

Less than perfect: the sound. Actually, it's a bit of joke. But, that doesn't effect my rating because I don't feel that the internal speakers are really meant to be used w/ a TV like this. I'm using a 5 channel surround system, but before I hooked it up, I heard the speakers. It makes sense that they wouldn't sound good since you can't even see them.

Also less than perfect was the delivery process via this company, CEVA/Eagle. Note that they claimed to have contacted me via email to set up delivery, but I never rec'd anything. They didn't call. So, I had to google them and call them. Plan for this! Stay on top of them. The driver called me no less than 4 times during the day, each time making up some goofy excuse for being even later. I think he was watching the NCAA tournament at a bar somewhere. But, in the end, it arrived 1 day late, and in perfect condition. So, I don't care. And, I can't take away a star from the TV due to the delivery service. I just think Amazon needs to communicate the process better with it's customers and make sure that CEVA does a better job too.

Anyway, Amazon's price is great, the TV is fabulous. Enjoy!

(More customer reviews)I've been wanting a new flat-panel TV for some time and, though I do make a lot of purchases on-line, I felt like I actually needed to look at a TV in person.My wife and I were looking at the TV's in Wal-mart when another customer pointed out that the better TVs had a higher contrast ratio and he thought that was the most important factor.Sure enough, the one we thought had the best picture was the one with the highest contrast ratio - it was 3200:1, the best 32-inch in the store.(I really wanted something with 1080p resolution, but they only had 720p in the 32" size TVs.We decided to get that one, since we had seen it and felt like we could enjoy it - but they didn't have one in stock...

I came home and began to research.It turns out that there are only a very few 1080p TVs in the 32" model, this being one of them.In looking at the contrast ratio I found that this one was rated at 15,000:1 - almost 5 times better than the best one at Walmart. (High contrast ratio seems to give you darker darks and whiter whites - lower contrast ratios have a milky looking gray where it's supposed to be black...)My research combined with what I saw in the store gave me the confidence to purchase a TV on-line.I settled on the Samsung LN32A550.

The TV arrived in good working order and I had it set up and running within 30 minutes.(The biggest problem was unhooking and moving the old one!) The picture is everything I could have imagined it would be - far better than anything I saw in the store.The crystal clear picture and crisp, well defined images make this simply the best picture I have ever seen on a TV.I saw a bit of a NASCAR race on this unit and the motion was unbelievably smooth - no after images at all.

I debated a bit on giving this unit a five-star rating.I felt like the picture quality so outrated the sound that I had to bump it up a bit.But if sound is an issue you may want to consider this to be a "four-star" unit.While the TV has a built in equalizer function (with some presets based on your listening preferences) I found the sound, even in the best adjustment leaves a lot to be desired.It has a tinny sound much like you would expect from an old transitor radio.I would suggest investing in a good pair of external speakers to enhance this unit.(If you already have a home theatre set-up sound is not an issue anyway...)

So far I'm glad I made this purchase.If Samsung can improve the speakers on this TV they will have the perfect TV!

OK....Now that I've owned this thing a few months I'll tell you how it's going:

First, it was pointed out to me in a post that the contrast ratio on 27- and 32-inch TV's was 15,000:1 instead of 30,000:1 as I incorrectly surmissed from the somewhat unclear (to me) product update.I have edited the initial review to reflect the correct information.I'm sorry for any confusion it may have caused.(If you want the higher ratio and have the room, you could consider going with a larger screen size.15,000: is still a pretty amazing ratio though...)

Overall I am happy to report that I am just as satisfied today as I was the day I first turned it on.I did purchase a set of Creative GigaWorks T40 Premium 2.0 Speakers (available at Amazon.com) for around $125 - and this dramatically improved my viewing experience.(I'm sure the best option would be to use a home theatre set-up - but this unit is in my bedroom...)

I still recommend this TV - just don't expect too much out of the sound - without a little help.

Samsung LNT4671F 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD TV Review

(More customer reviews)I've had my LN-T4671F for a couple of weeks now, and I'm very happy with it. I previously owned a Samsung plasma (4254), and this is definitely a better TV.

There are numerous good things about this television, including dark blacks, low noise (no noise except what is coming through the source), high-quality panel (low incidence of panel defects seen in earlier LCD televisions), wide range of adjustments available, beautiful picture quality (on par with the best LCDs available), and a very good price for all of this quality (as of Oct 2007 market).

There is only one known issue (as of Oct 2007): The TV needs to be set to Game Mode to watch football or soccer. This is a simple On/Off setting in the Setup menu. If the TV is not in Game Mode then football passes or long kicks often (about 50% of the time) exhibit a triple-ball effect. It looks something like this: (o). As it moves on screen, the image of the ball shows a repeated image of it's front (nose) and rear (tail) on either side of it. Most folks will see this triple image, some might just see it as an exaggerated blur (but the triple image is clearly visible when the playback is paused). This should be fixable by a firmware update, and turning on Game Mode fixes it as well, so it's not a big deal. Game Mode does limit the available picture adjustments, but in practice I can get the picture in Game Mode very close to what I get with the full range of adjustments. (The only thing is that Game Mode turns on some image sharpening that is ok with sports, but is not great with cartoons. So, I use Game Mode when watching football and turn it off for regular viewing. A lot of folks find that watching full time in Game Mode is very pleasing. It's a matter of preference).Recommendations for new owners:

1. Give it about 100 hours before the picture settles in. The backlight is a bit bright in the first 100 hours, so I found myself slowly adjusting it up during burn-in.

2. For basic adjustment try Movie with Standard color, Gamma -1, and color on Auto. After 100 hours, backlight can be turned up to 7 or 8 (unless you watch in a pitch black room), and for TV watching Brightness can be 45-50 and Contrast 70-80. On this TV, brightness sets the black level and contrast sets the white level. Turn the brightness up so that the actual black parts of the picture remain pitch black (ESPN HD SportsCenter is a good source for this. You should see detail in the dark suit jackets, but the shadowed areas on the set should remain rich black). Then adjust the Contrast just to the point that pure white objects (like lights or reflections off of football helmets) are white. You can tweak the contrast up from this point to give the image some snap, but don't go too high (the image can look harsh or washed out).

3. Turn off all of the image processing (DNIe, Edge Enhancement, etc.). The picture will look more natural (give it a couple of days if you're used to these things on). These things distort the picture slightly to make it look exciting, but the there is noise and other false information added to the image. Turning these things off lets the source be displayed undistorted, so a good source will look terrific.

4. For image size, use Just Scan. This passes the input directly to the screen without any processing to scale the image, resulting in a bit more crispness and clarity. However, some TV signals have a bit of noise at the very edge of the screen. In that case, set the TV to 16:9 and it will slightly crop the edges of the incoming image (this slight cropping, or overscan, is common on a lot of TVs and some broadcasters get lazy and just assume that the very edge of their picture (2-3%) will be cut off).

5. Play around with the Auto Motion Plus feature, but don't expect it to be great for everything. I've tried it on a lot of sources, and generally I leave it off. It can actually make things look too smooth. It's doing its job as advertised, but the result can look odd.

6. Consider a Harmony 880 programmable remote. I got one after buying the 4671, and it is terrific at automating the changing of inputs as you switch from TV to DVD to Video Game, etc.

7. The Apple TV looks amazing with this TV. It was an unexpected surprise to that see that the Apple TV can upscale to 1080p/60Hz and that the results are on par with my Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player when it upscales DVD content. I'm very happy that my Apple TV can remain a high-quality source.

8. Standard definition television looks pretty good with this TV, much better than on other LCDs that I've seen (but of course it's still obviously standard definition).

9. The 4671 clearly reveals variable quality among HD sources. When watching HD television channels, some are obviously more compressed, using poorer-quality cameras, and otherwise not as well produced as others. ESPN HD and Discovery HD Theatre generally look excellent, although on HD Theatre you can definitely see the differences in production quality between the various shows.

10. Finally, consider getting an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player that outputs 1080/24Hz content. Movies are shot at 24 frames per second, and the 4671 can accept a 1080/24 signal. This provides the purest movie-watching experience without interpolation of frame rates.

(More customer reviews)This is a very good television with many options for expandability. The four HDMI ports are extremely useful and made hooking up my component add ons a breeze. I attached a DISH DVR, a DVD/VCR combo, a DVD player, a Blu-Ray player, and an A/V receiver -- and it was an absolute delight to find all of them worked perfectly with the Sony. The 120hz picture makes fast action scenes a pleasure: no blur. And, the 1080p shows up as such for viewing Blu-Ray discs. There is, occasionally, visible pixeling for certain scenes -- although they are hard to describe. The sound is the one disappointment that keeps me from giving this a higher rating; to hear clearly from the television speakers, the volume must be turned up to uncomfortably high levels. Using external speakers is the only way to go with this baby. The remote control is easy to use and handles all needed actions. Setup is a breeze. This model is available at high discounts from many places. I got mine at CostCo and have not felt cheated. You will, I believe, find this model -- with most of the latest technical improvements (alas, it does not have 240hz refresh)-- to be good value for the money. My only regret is not getting the 52 inch model; it, however, is overpriced in my opinion.

I could definitely see some of the things that people have questioned on this thread, but the settings change took care of anything I could find with it, but then again I am not a super videophile...I know just enough to be dangerous.

One thing I noticed while messing with the settings is that they definitely make a big difference in getting to an ultimate image on this LCD. Furthermore, this model appears to be very flexible, and as such most of the non catrostophic issues I am hearing about on different forums can be cleared up if you are using the correct settings. The settings that I am using are below in case you care. The most important one of the lot was the HDMI Black=Low.

A few other things to note, especially if you are in the market. I bought mine from Amazon, and the seller with the low price that day was OfficeDepot. They have a subsidiary called TechDepot that sells consumer stuff; didn't know that until after the order was handed off from Amazon. I got the low price I wanted, and have someone to go work with in person if something goes wrong.

Delivery came from Pilot Freight, and the delivery guy was totally cool about me getting it out and sending a signal to it before I signed the slip and went beyond the point of no return for refusal of delivery. Offer your delivery guy a drink...they should have no problem sticking it out for five minutes while they are sipping a cold bottled water on a hot day.

I also wanted to mention that I got my HDMI cables from monoprice and they are excellent cables given the insanely low price compared to other places. Don't let the kid at Best Buy try to talk you into Monster unless he is going to let you use his employee discount. I even called monoprice tech support to ask a quick question, and they were really helpful, I got it answered in less than 5 minutes from when I dialed them.

Other than a few other things to figure out, this has been a wicked purchase so far. My wife is really happy with it, and even though it was extravagant, is glad that we got the 52" instead of the 46". I am putting together a desktop pc that will go in my living room that will play Blu-Ray so the ultimate test will be in a few weeks once I dump Casino Royale BD onto the 1080p native resolution.

Bottom line is that I did as much research as I could, took my time in making the purchase, and I am really happy so far with what I got. It is a great LCD, and with the HDMI 1.3 support, you are as future proofed as you can get today. Anyone not sure should definitely buy the Samsung...much better than the Sony, and I think that once all the reviews are in on CNET, this gen of Samsung LCDs will be number one on their Editors Choice list, surpassing the Sony.

Sorry for the rant, but when I was researching my purchase, a lot of what I learned was from posts like these. Hopefully what I am posting here will help others make a good purchasing decision. Good luck. Gotta get back to the Discovery HD Channel now! Not sure how I EVER watched anything in SD before.

(More customer reviews)Had my Samsung UN55B8000 TV a couple of weeks now. It has more than lived up to the hype. Hooked it up and put on a blu-ray disk. Even the delivery guy's jaw dropped, and he's delivered/set up hundreds of TVs.

TV is only inch and half thick and only weighs 60 pounds or so.

In fact, it is sometimes almost too good. When viewing people on HD you can see every little mole, scar, wrinkle, stray hair, makeup, five o'clock shadow, makeup line, etc. I'm sitting here watching the news and I can clearly see tiny pieces of lint on the guy's black suit. I'm guessing the talking heads of tomorrow are all going to have to have much better complexions.

If you like to tweak your TV this one provides a lot of different controls. There are already some websites that will give you what they consider good tweaks to maximize the pic. You can also look for the B7000 tweaks. Looks pretty darn fantastic right out of the box so if you aren't a techie, don't worry about it.

Sounds..not particularly good or bad, but I don't want TV speakers taking up space anyway. If you are going to spend this kind of money for a TV you should be using your stereo system.

Some reviewers were complaining about the number of inputs. Again, how many is enough. I run my PS3, XBOX360, IPOD, and the Dish box through my Denon and so I only use one HDMI.

You can plug it into the internet. No set-up, just plug it in. First thing it did was download 12 updates to itself. Have no idea what they did but ...didn't cause any problems. It automatically loads up some of Yahoo's widgets. Fun to try but...not something I have really gone back and used much. Also has some built in content...recipes, artwork, etc. that I haven't bothered to look at.

You can plug in USB drives and view content directly off the drive.

I long ago got rid of my roof antenna. I bought a little Turk indoor antenna and plugged that in so I can pop over into over-the-air signals and watch TV. It will automatically search and find the on-air channels. It even downloads some kind of TV guide from the internet for the channels it finds.

I also wanted to see if there was any signal degradation from Dish. I haven't noticed the HD degradation with Dish that I had with Comcast. The way Comcast packed the HD signals you could see a real difference between OTA and the packed pics.

Samsung also provides software which allows you to use your PC as a server. Then you can display your pics, music, etc on the TV. Took a little playing around but was easy compared to some of the others I've tried to use.

I've played games with both my PS3 and the XBOX360. No problems. No pixelating. Did not bother to change TV over to game mode. I haven't fooled around with the 240Hz function. I just leave it on standard.

I'm sure there are other features I haven't tried. With the ability to update itself over the internet I have no doubt they will teach it even more amazing tricks.

I've set up my Harmony 880 Pro to control all my devices including the IPOD. IPOD menu/info will display (through my Denon) on the TV.

All of the above features are great but the main thing is... the picture is just absolutely mind-blowing wonderful.

So, fantastic TV. I am VERY happy with it. Obviously I highly recommend it.

((Now I'm watching Wall-E in HD and it is pretty amazing.))
