(More customer reviews)I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this pair of stands and I was pleasantly surprised when I received them.The base is a heavy cut-steel plate with a textured semi-gloss finish that seems to be baked on.The top plate is similar in material, but smaller (6"x6").The main support shaft is made from "extruded aluminum" but very heavy and thick; also with a smooth powder-coated finish.
It comes with very minimal instructions but is simple to assemble with a phillips-head screwdriver.Cables can be run down the back of the support shaft in a groove shaped into the aluminum and through a hole in the base plate to beneath the stand.The kit includes two sets of adjustable feet: 4 sharp points and 4 rounded feet that are essentially carriage bolts turned upside-down.
There is a 1/2" dia. hole in the top plate that allows access to the inside of the support shaft.I suspect this is for filling the stand with sand or lead shot using a simple funnel.It looks like sand might leak out from between the base plate and support shaft but lead shot should work very well.
I whole-heartedly recommend this product and have a feeling other Plateau products would also be of similar quality.
